Join Us for the 37th Installment in Our Sandwich Series
In the US, we have the Submarine, in Italy, The Panini, Cuba, The Cubano, and in Greece, the Gyro...Many argue that every culture has their own version of the sandwich, so let us begin our tour of what Atlanta has to offer in the way of great sandwiches. Two slices of bread, a variety of fillings, the sandwich is now much more than just a humble snack...
The first recorded sandwich was made by the famous Rabbi, Hillel the Elder, who lived during the 1st century B.C. A poor man, but a great scholar, he began the Passover custom of sandwiching a mixture of chopped nuts, apples, spices, and wine between two matzohs to eat with bitter herbs. This sandwich is the foundation of the Seder and is named after him. But matzoh, being unleavened bread, is not absorptive of sauces and juices as today's sandwich has become. And so we have evolved...
A favorite from Disney World, the Earl has ventured to Atlanta...finally! We can continue our love of sammies and the holidays and order the Holiday Turkey (or really you can order any sandwich of your choosing). The Hawaiian BBQ is also a personal favorite, as is the Caprese. Of all the sandwich joints, The Earl does the best job of offering veggies a variety that is more than just putting lettuce and tomato between the bun. They even offer wraps (still considered a sammie!)
Parking is easy at Phipps (and free), but seating may be our biggest challenge. We will figure it out as always. I'm doing this one earlier to help with the Saturday mall crowd, especially during the holidays! Come hungry, come on time!
